This event is free and open to the public.

 

Old Roots, New Rules will take place over 3 days, though the most important day to join us is Sunday, for the Ujima assembly. We highly encourage you to participate on Saturday as well, as the workshops will help prepare us for voting and discussions on Sunday.  

 

 

Saturday, October 6th: Reclaiming Finance

WORKSHOPS, 1-5pm. Participation Encouraged.  | Thelma D. Burns Building, 575 Warren St.

On Saturday afternoon, we will get informed and prepare for Sunday’s decisions through skill-building workshops around finance, investment, and community economics. Workshops will also include opportunities to shape and give input to proposals that we will vote on during Sunday’s assembly. We encourage you to come for both Saturday and Sunday if you are able, as Saturday will provide important collective grounding for Sunday’s decisions.

Investment Finance, Ujima Style: A Democratic Process for Fund Allocation
All About Cooperatives: A Collaborative Workshop with Dorchester Food Coop and CERO Coop

Envisioning Our Dream Economy: Creating Community Standards

Risk and Return: Learn to Analyze R&R and Transform Conventions

Sunday, October 7th: Re-Writing the Rules for Our Economy
UJIMA ASSEMBLY, 1-7pm. Participation Important! | Thelma D. Burns Building, 575 Warren St.

On Sunday, we will get down to the heart of Ujima: making decisions together about the future we want. We will be discussing proposals and voting on Ujima’s Good Business standards, the terms of our democratic investment fund, and our initial plans for local development and investment at the neighborhood level.

 

UJIMA PARTY, 7-11pm

On Sunday evening, we will party, with music, arts, food and community to celebrate the vision we're bringing to life in Boston. Party details in RSVP confirmation e-mail.

 

Monday, October 8th: A Day in the Life of Our Dream Economy

For Monday, we will be putting out a calendar of local events and activities that embody the kind of economy and world we aspire to create! What would it feel like to be in a creative, cooperative economy, of our own design?? Let's find out. We will be supporting local businesses, learning new skills, making art, and more!
