#FightTheHike: Championship Round

February 26, 2016

We need your support to save the MBTA and keep fares and passes affordable for riders. In the next two weeks, the entity tasked with overseeing the T, the Fiscal and Management Control Board (FMCB), will be discussing and voting on proposals to raise fares by 6.71 and 9.77 percent, and monthly passes by as much as 23.1 percent.

Virtually everyone who came out to a fare hearing over the past two months spoke against these high increases, with more than 8,000 people submitting comments online, in person, on the phone and by mail. Nearly 75 percent of these comments expressed negative sentiments towards any increase in fares.

Yet the FMCB still seems intent on raising fares, despite outcry from riders and community groups, the 2013 fare cap law and our presentations on alternative ways to balance the budget.

We are organizing to #FightTheHike, but the Control Board is fighting dirty as we approach the final rounds of this heavyweight championship. Join us at an upcoming

FMCB meeting to support an MBTA budget balanced without fare hikes, service cuts or privatization schemes, and hold the board accountable to public concerns.

Final fare increase discussion:
Monday, February 29, 12:00 p.m.

Fare increase vote:
Monday, March 7, 12:00 p.m.

Both meetings are on the second floor of the Transportation Building at 10 Park Plaza, Boston, MA 02116.

Thank you for supporting this work for an affordable public transportation system!
