The first step towards solving a problem is admitting you have one, or so the saying goes. At this past Thursday MBTA Board meeting, the T made an important commitment towards admitting that it has a problem - polluting bus emissions.
Some of the most environmentally overburdened communities in the Commonwealth are home to constant pollution from bus traffic. One of ACE's goals is to eradicate this pollution and the drastically negative health effects that are forced onto residents.
Last Thursday the MBTA Board of Directors approved an important plan that will move the system towards greater transparency and accountability (see the Herald and Metro with quotes from Lee Matsueda). By checking bus emmissions with greater regularity - a minimum of three times a year - and posting the results online, the we hope that the T is starting to take steps to keep these pollutants out of our communities.
